Puyo Puyo!! Quest information | |
Sig is a spacey boy, first introduced in Puyo Puyo Fever 2. Although he is sometimes shown smiling, he lacks emotions through his text, and acts passively toward things, save for his great fascination with insects. His lack of emotion in his speech lead to assumptions that he has some problems emoting. According to Puyo Puyo Fever 2, he is descended from a demon but is ignorant of his origins. His left eye is red and his left hand is a large red claw, denoting his demonic heritage. He is also the secondary antagonist of Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop alongside Meena.
Biography
Personal History
Little is known about Sig's background, but he apparently looked normal before the beginning of Puyo Puyo Fever 2, and his appearance only changed shortly after he transferred to Primp Magic School.
Appearance
His most distinct features are his heterochromia and red left arm, which come from his demonic origins, and are said to have occurred slightly before the events of Puyo Puyo Fever 2. His eyes are blue and red, his left eye being red. Sig has sky blue hair, with hair antennae that seem to be prehensile.
In Puyo Puyo Fever 2, he wore a white and blue high-collared jacket with what seems to be an orange brace, and dark blue pants and blue shoes. Light blue ankle socks peek from his shoes. He also carries a large bag on his waist, with the school's wing-shaped emblem clipped to it.
In Puyo Puyo 7, his outfit is a lighter-colored version of the boys' Suzuran school uniform. He keeps his waist bag.
In Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary, he wore a dark blue and white-sleeved t-shirt with a beetle on the front. His pants are a lighter shade of blue, with a white stripe around his knees. His shoes are now white and blue with green soles.
Personality
Sig is often described as a boy that goes along life at his own pace. He doesn't show a lot of emotion, rarely raising his voice, treating everything nonchalantly, and speaking in a somewhat monotone voice. He's also rather absent minded, often failing to catch sarcasm or treating metaphors literally.
One of the things that motivates him is his love for bugs. Starting with Puyo Puyo! 15th Anniversary he would often be accompanied by bugs and his motivations would often involve bugs. In particular he's often accompanied by a small ladybug that he loves dearly, to the point he shows fear if it's attacked, such as when Witch wanted to use it as a potion ingredient in Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary. In Puyo Puyo Tetris, after Schezo corners him, Sig reveals that he keeps a family of bugs in his left arm. Because Sig believes that Schezo is going to take his hand, he requests some time to say goodbye to the bugs.
The Other Sig
Another, separate entity from the usual Sig has emerged twice and taken control of his body. Once in Sig's Secret, in response to a power-up potion that Witch crafted and gave to Amitie, and again in Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop when Meena borrowed some of Sig's powers. Sig's Secret describes him as having darker hair than the usual Sig, two red eyes, and a much harsher voice. Although these physical differences are not shown in Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop, his voice is drastically different. He goes unnamed in both appearances and refuses to be called by Sig's name. However, when he is controlling Sig's body, Sig is still conscious and can observe and remember everything he does.[3]
His personality is callous and cruel, and he is ruthless in trying to accomplish his goals. The first time he attempted to unseal a box in the Ruins of the Seal in Sig's Secret and the second time he attempted to acquire more power to take over the Dream World in Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop.
He seems to recognize the power resting in Amitie's red Puyo hat, but the actual implications of this are still unknown. Due to the stark difference in demeanor, he appears to be distinct from the alternate costume Dark Sig that was introduced in Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary.
Abilities
His magic derives from Blue Magic, and as such, all his spells are based on shades of blue, and blue-colored objects or concepts. His attacks include Teal, Acid, Zenith, Cyan, Paraiba, Asmalte, Robin's Egg, Lapis Lazuli, Celestial and Hydrangea, although in the English translation of Puyo Puyo Tetris and Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, Hydrangea is replaced by Cobalt. He also has Cerulean and Lapis Lazuli in Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary.
Relationships
- Accord
- Ms. Accord is Sig's teacher at Primp Magic School, her other students being Amitie, Raffina, Klug, and Lidelle. She has implied that she knows about the reason Sig's red arm and eye are the way they are, but has never talked about it, always avoiding the question.
- Amitie
- Sig gets along well with Amitie, and is often seen interacting with her more than other characters. Amitie tends to be supportive of Sig, as shown in the novel Sig's Secret, where she worries for his well-being after he unexpectedly quits the cafe preparation. In Puyo Puyo Tetris, he helps her initiate a battle with Raffina when she's out of breath. After her victory he insists she rest after thinking she was about to faint, and she thanks him for watching her after finally giving in. When Amitie brings up a memory of Sig to battle in chapter 6, she mentions that she's always wanted to tell him something, but the Sig of the past interrupts her, saying that she should tell the real Sig (in the Japanese version of this scene, she states that her hat reacts strangely whenever she's around him). In Chapter 9, Sig trusts Amitie enough to ask her to protect him from Schezo, who is looking to take his left hand. In Puyo Puyo Chronicle, Amitie becomes shocked to hear that Ally holds adoration for Sig, but calms down after Ally clarifies that she adores Sig's love for bugs.
- The Crimson Spirit
- Sig is the bearer of the cyan soul, which the Crimson Spirit is seeking out to recover its true power. When Sig confronted Possessed Klug in Puyo Puyo Fever 2, Possessed Klug asserted that Sig's body was definitely that of his descendant. In the Japanese dialogue, he stated that Sig's body is undoubtedly the one who inherits his blood. However, the Charm of Kumamori given to Sig by Akuma prevented Sig's soul from resonating with Possessed Klug's.
- In Chapter 9 of Puyo Puyo Tetris, the spirit inside the Tome of Sealing began to chatter right after Sig had ran past Klug, further strengthening the implied connection between the two.
- Although Sig has never acknowledged the spirit's presence, he dislikes being near Klug's book and tries to avoid it.[4]
- Klug
- Despite Klug's rudeness towards everyone, Sig seems unbothered by, ignores, or simply doesn't notice Klug's condescending attitude and constant mockery of him and the others. Both Klug and Sig share a connection to the Tome of Sealing in Puyo Puyo Fever 2 & Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary, where the spirit within the Tome of Sealing possesses Klug after being unsealed by him in the former and makes it clear it recognized Sig as its other half in both games, with Klug even confirming this. When Klug crossed paths with Schezo in Chapter 9 of Puyo Puyo Tetris, he withheld information about Sig's whereabouts, showing concern for him and asking if Schezo was bothering him. However, he did tell Schezo about Sig & the spirit in his tome being connected. In Sig's Secret, when the Primp Festival begins after Sig returns to normal, Klug and Raffina wear cyan-colored aprons and look after him, much to his surprise.
- Raffina
- Most of Sig and Raffina's interactions include Sig getting Raffina's name wrong (i.e.: Ragamuffin, Waffina), much to her dismay. Raffina believes Sig's arm became red due to strength training, and was surprised to learn otherwise. In Puyo Puyo Tetris, when Raffina was acting mysteriously due to the influence of the two worlds fusing, she had mentioned an 'unusual energy' dwelling inside Sig, curious as to why he had not submitted to the chaos. He simply stated that people don't like chaos. In Sig's Secret, when the Primp Festival begins after Sig returns to normal, Raffina and Klug wear cyan-colored aprons and look after him, much to his surprise.
- Lidelle
- Mysteriously enough, Lidelle seems to always notice Sig's spirit floating by him, which pops up on occasion. This is likely because of her heightened senses compared to the other characters. When addressing it, Sig appears to have no idea what she's talking about, promptly leading to a Puyo battle between the two, for one reason or another. During Chapter 9 of Puyo Puyo Tetris, Lidelle hesitated to tell Schezo Sig's whereabouts when asked, worrying for his safety.
Warning: The following article or section contains major spoilers.
- After mistaking Meena for an undiscovered species of insect, Sig befriends her when she asks to borrow some of his power to make everyone's dreams come true for a short period of time. Sig obliges, although he does not fully understand her goals, and it is this borrowing of his power that awakens the other Sig and allows him to hijack the Dream World for a short period of time.
- Although she's at fault for putting him and his friends in danger, Sig forgives her because she never had any ill intent from the start. The two separate at the end of the game as her powers weaken, but they promise to always be friends.
- Ocean Prince
- Ocean Prince frequently uses Sig as his servant, this began as a running joke in Puyo Puyo Fever 2 where Salde promised him 3 meals a day, naps, and walks if he were to become his servant. Sig eventually forgot what the rest of the deal was, but seems to have happily gone along with whatever Salde needed during the game's HaraHara course.
- Lemres
- Sig seems to dislike Lemres, usually finding him suspicious as he immediately attempts to leave several times after first meeting him, and leaves him to fend for himself after winning the Puyo battle against him. In Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary, Sig was annoyed with him because he scared bugs away from his lures. Despite this, Lemres has shown concern for his safety, as well as implying he also knows something about his red eye and arm while keeping the information secret.
- Schezo
- Similarly to Lemres, Sig wants nothing to do with Schezo, with Chapter 9 of Puyo Puyo Tetris involving him running away from him constantly, as Schezo claims to want his power. Lemres warns Schezo that the two should not cross paths, even in a dream.
History
Puyo Puyo Fever 2
Sig serves as one of the 3 playable characters in this game's story mode.
RunRun Course
In this tutorial route, Sig fights Klug, Lidelle, and Ms. Accord.
WakuWaku Course
This course begins with Sig going to to deliver an observation record on a flower to Amitie, since it was her turn to fill out. Ms. Accord had sent her out to meet with a guest a few moments ago, so she asks Sig to find her and hand her a photo of the person she's supposed to greet. While looking for Amitie, Sig encounters Onion Pixie, Lidelle, Gogotte, Ocean Prince, Arle, and Lemres.
While walking through the Nahe Woods, Sig comes across Onion Pixie and Oniko, who shows interest in Sig, which upsets Onion Pixie and results in a Puyo battle.
After this, Sig meets Lidelle, who recognizes him from class. She's intrigued by the movement of his hair, which is mistaken for a desire for a Puyo battle by Sig.
He then returns to the forest feeling hungry, and is offered soup by Gogotte if he wins against him in a Puyo battle.
After this encounter, Sig meets Ocean Prince by the Miru Coast, where he is hiding from Otomo. Ocean Prince offers 3 meals and a walk every day if Sig will be his servant, which agrees to.
After they Puyo battle, Sig finds Arle at the Rakti Highway trying to figure out a way to go back home. She's interrupted by Sig's antennae twitching, but Sig continues the Puyo battle in spite of her stunned silence.
At the Pitto Dunes, Sig encounters Lemres who is lost and trying to find his way to Primp Town. Sig attempts to leave, which makes Lemres think that both of them were lost, so maybe they can walk back to town together, but Sig refuses this offer and tries to leave once more. Before he can leave, Lemres challenges him to a Puyo battle, on the condition that Lemres finds his way to town on his own if Sig wins. After defeating him, Lemres asks about the photo that Ms. Accord gave Sig, and Sig realizes that he is the guest that Amitie is supposed to be looking for. He straightens Lemres out, then leaves him stranded in the oasis.
HaraHara Course
At the start of the HaraHara Course, Ocean Prince in his human form, calls out to Sig, not being recognized at first. He requests that Sig looks for the Lantern of Star, so that Prince Salde may once again turn into a fish, so he may continue to avoid Otomo. They set off on their short journey, where Sig encounters Donguri Gaeru, Tartar, Yu & Rei, Frank & Stein, Amitie, Baldanders, Akuma, and Possessed Klug.
Sig and Prince Salde venture to the forest, and come across Donguri Gaeru. Prince Salde requests that Sig fetches it for him, beliving that it is a regular acorn. When mistaken for food, Donguri Gaeru ribbits angrily and challenges Sig to a Puyo Puyo battle.
Tartar stops Sig and Prince Salde, to ask where Raffina is. Sig claims he doesn't know, to which Tartar believes he is lying, due to him smelling like her. He then blocks their way, challenging Sig to a Puyo match.
Upon arriving at the Clandestin Mansion, Prince Salde hides. Sig is then met by Yu & Rei and presented with a quiz. Sig answers both graveyard-themed questions correctly, netting him a "Gorgeous Puyo Match", which Sig is pleased with
After the previous match, Prince Salde rejoins him, as they encounter Frank & Stein. Frank scolds the two, claiming that they ought to be more attentive with children. Prince Salde then prompts Sig to challenge the two along, pleasing them. Sig snidely accepts.
Upon meeting Amitie, she questions who Sig has with him. Prince Salde introduces himself, to which Sig then lists the benefits he receives from being his servant. Amitie questions said benefits, prompting Prince Salde to command Sig initiate a Puyo match with her. He gladly does as he requests. Prince Salde is eager to seek out the "Lantern of Star", asking Baldanders for its location once he sees it cross his way. Being a dog, Baldanders answers in barks, since Prince Salde can't understand him, he becomes angry and accuses him of wasting their time. He then orders Sig to challenge it to a Puyo match.
At the entrance of the Arca Ruins, Akuma awaits. When the two meet him, he says that what they seek is in the next room, but they must be powerful enough to defeat the dangerous foe within the next room. Akuma initiates a Puyo match with Sig to test his power. After the match, Akuma hands Sig the "Charm of Kumamori", which reads 'Ito Hairito'.
After Sig reads the "Charm of Kumamori", his left hand glows, and his right eye turns red. Possessed Klug appears right after having possessed Klug's body, claiming afterwards that his true body might be elsewhere. At their confrontation, Prince Salde notices that Possessed Klug has the "Lantern of Star" in his possession. At the same time, Possessed Klug points out Sig's red arm, recognizing him as the descendant of his other half. Prince Salde prompts Sig to devote himself to claiming the lantern with a Puyo match. Sig stares at his red hand in curiosity as it glows, while Possessed Klug points out that a spell (the "Charm of Kumamori") has enchanted Sig, preventing his soul from resonating with him. He disregards it, claiming that he can simply disenchant it after he wins the Puyo match.
Sig wins, and Prince Salde snatches the "Lantern of Star". After it is in his possession, Ocean Prince then transforms back into a fish. To Possessed Klug's dismay, Sig leaves once Ocean Prince calls him to the seaside, where they say their farewells. Once they say their goodbye's, Ocean Prince swims into the ocean, only to be engulfed by a whale as Sig looks on, just slightly affected.
Puyo Puyo! 15th Anniversary
Sig's Story
Sig's story in Puyo Puyo! 15th Anniversary. His opponents in the tournament are as follows:
Onion Pixie
Sig's first opponent is Onion Pixie. He quickly and angrily tells Sig to give up on Oniko, to which he nonchalantly agrees to. Onion Pixie's still not convinced. Although Sig openly acknowledges that Oniko is Onion Pixie's girlfriend and that he mustn't intrude, Onion Pixy decides to settle the matter through the Puyo match.
Arle
Sig's second opponent is Arle, who opens the meeting with a friendly statement. She asks him if he also likes the color blue, to which Sig answers that he does, and that it's the "sky" and the "ocean". Arle is reminded of her world, and expresses that while she likes this world, she's homesick as well. She wonders if she can find a clue in her Puyo matches.
Baldanders
Sig's third opponent is Baldanders, who eagerly greets him. He's bored, but Sig can't play with him as he's in a tournament—neither can anyone else, because they're also busy with the tournament. Sig confirms this with Baldanders and, as their match is coming up, decides to play with him.
Suketoudara
Sig's fourth opponent is Suketoudara. Sig, seeing Suketoudara is a fish, wonders if he's Ocean Prince's friend. Suketoudara takes this as his dance not getting popular enough to be known and finds it odd. Sig replies by saying he doesn't dance, but plays Puyo. He proceeds by accidentally upsetting Suketoudara by calling him "Uncle".
Ms. Accord
Sig's fifth opponent is Ms. Accord. Although Ms. Accord is the one hosting the tournament, she wants to enjoy it as well as test her students. Sig likens this to a pop quiz, and they get started.
Lemres
Sig's sixth opponent is Lemres, who asks if Sig is hungry and offers him either one of two different candies. Sig wants both, so he chooses neither. They instead have a match.
Ocean Prince
Sig's seventh opponent is Ocean Prince. Sig feels hungry and remembers that servitude to Ocean Prince grants free meals. Under normal circumstances, this would be the case; the prince claims that tournaments have strict laws, so he can't help him. Sig asks what laws are, to which Ocean Prince responds in befuddlement. He teaches him what laws are, then introduces the tournament "law": that no one shall defeat Ocean Prince or else they will be thrown in the dungeon. Sig considers the dungeon to be a meager punishment and challenges him anyway.
Rulue
Sig's eighth and final opponent is Rulue, who starts off by wondering where she is. Sig informs her that she's in Primp, a location unbeknownst to her. He asks her who she is, but she declines by saying he's too young to be told. He starts to go, but Rulue cuts him off and introduces herself anyway, though rather graciously. She asks if he knows "her darling" Satan, but he does not. He asks if she's played Puyo on the way here, then brings up Arle. Rulue becomes distressed to know that Arle is in Primp Town as well, and tells Sig that she is her rival. Sig declares that he'll fight for Arle, and the battle ensues.
Sig, now the champion of the tournament, meets with Ms. Accord to receive his medal and make his wish. He wishes for new insects in the forest. Unfortunately, Ms. Accord explains that the medal doesn't like insects, so the wish is denied. When Sig asks why, she adds that the medal doesn't have any hands to drive bugs away. Sig suggests he could catch the bugs, but leaves it at that and accepts the medal's dislike for insects.
Other Characters' Stories
Amitie
Amitie makes a deal with Sig; she'll show him a tree full of insects she found if he goes easy on her so she can become champion. Sig agrees to this. As Amitie mentions gentle hands, Sig wonders if hers have become odd like his left hand, showing relief when they turn out fine.
Lidelle
Lidelle mentions her goal to meet someone participating in the tournament. She asks Sig to lose the match so she can advance, but he refuses.
Klug
Klug wonders why Sig would chase insects when he could be a bookworm like him, talking about how cool they are. Sig confuses a bookworm for a new kind of worm and seeks to catch one to make his collection cooler, exasperating Klug. Sig wonders if he would be caught if he became a bookworm.
Ms. Accord
Amitie has told Sig that there is a surprise test, which she confirms. Sig wonders if he'll get a reward for an "S" rank. She says he might get a wall full of insects, but she won't lose easily.
Dapper Bones
Dapper Bones notices how eager Sig is because of the tournament. Sig says he wants to become the champion, but his wish is a secret. Dapper comments on Sig's hairstyle and the way he holds his bag, likening it to a bassist who held his guitar the same way. Sig is just happy to have acceptable attire.
Donguri Gaeru
Sig mentions that Dongurigaeru eats insects and says he should stop. Dongurigaeru refuses, saying it's his life source. Sig still doesn't want him to, so they battle.
Akuma
Akuma points out that Sig's left arm is still odd-looking. Sig asks if it's stuck like this forever. Akuma doesn't know but he wants to cure it, even though it wouldn't be easy. Sig offers an insect to cure him, but Akuma says a special power is needed, one even the medal can't grant. He says to wait until the time is ripe. Sig says he'll get used to it anyway.
Schezo
Schezo immediately notices Sig's left and asks what became of it. Sig doesn't know and doesn't care much about it. Schezo is baffled by this but still seeks out his power.
Rulue
Rulue notices Sig's strength and seeks to tame him. After his confusion, she clarifies that she finds his left hand and its power attractive, and wants to turn him into her servant. Sig nonchalantly agrees as long as he gets nap times.
Satan
Satan notices Sig's red arm and red eye, to which Sig responds with indifference. He also notices Sig has left half of himself somewhere. Sig finds this concept to be fun, which baffles and angers Satan. He'd like the other half to find bugs for him.
Puyo Puyo 7
Ringo meets Sig in the classroom. After a weird conversation about bugs, Ringo challenges Sig to a match, which he accepts. After the match, Sig leads Ringo to Raffina, and later goes along with them to meet Feli on the roof. After Act 1 though, Sig doesn't reappear in the story.
Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary
Sig's Story
Sig's story in Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary. His opponents are: Ringo, Lidelle, Raffina, Lemres, Amitie, Feli, Klug and Ms. Accord.
Ringo
Sig's first opponent is Ringo. Sig is sitting in the forest when Ringo finds him, saying that the scent of honey in the forest led her to him. She asks Sig if he was eating the honey, to which Sig responds that he had left the honey to catch bugs. The subject of bug-catching leads Ringo to bring up his left arm. Sig says that his arm has always been like this, but Ringo is skeptical, and challenges him to a Puyo match to prove that it is real. After this, Ringo asks what exactly his left arm is. Sig replies that he doesn't know, nor does he particularly care about it. However, his conversation with Ringo piques his curiosity about his hand.
Lidelle
Sig's second opponent is Lidelle, who also comes across him in the forest. Lidelle finds Sig staring at his arm, and asks him why it, and his left eye, are red. When Sig replies that he doesn't know, Lidelle asks him about the blue object that occasionally appears behind him. As Sig replies that he does not know, the object in question appears behind him. With Lidelle now extremely curious, she challenges him to a Puyo battle. After this, Lidelle claims that she caught a glimpse of it, but could not tell what it was. Sig responds that his left arm is starting to bother him, the reason being that he can't catch bugs with it.
Raffina
Sig's third opponent is Raffina, who asks what Sig is doing in the forest. Sig responds that he is thinking about things, namely his arm. He says that it has been like this for as long as he could remember, and wonders aloud how it came to be. Raffina is suddenly angered by this, saying that she thought the reason Sig's arm is the way it is was because he had been training to make it more muscular. When Sig denies these claims, she challenges him to a Puyo match. After this, Sig asks Raffina why his arm is red, to which Raffina replies that she does not know, nor does she care.
Lemres
Sig's fourth opponent is Lemres. Lemres comes across Sig staring at his hand, and asks him if he is hungry, offering him some candy. Sig turns him down, and asks him why his arm is red. Lemres says that he does not know and challenges Sig to a Puyo battle, offering Sig five candies if he wins.
Amitie
Sig's fifth opponent is Amitie. Amitie discovers Sig still sitting in the forest and asks him what he is doing. Sig responds that his arm has been bothering him recently, and that he cannot catch bugs with it. Amitie replies that she always thought Sig's arm was cool, and together with his left eye, thought it was his way of being fashionable. Sig says that he just wants to catch bugs. Amitie suggests that a Puyo battle might give them an idea of what to do. After this, Sig still has no idea of what to do, so Amitie suggests they go looking for someone that might know what to do. From this point on, Amitie tags along with Sig.
Feli
Sig's sixth opponent is Feli, who claims that she foresaw that Sig and Amitie would come to her to ask something. Amitie explains that Sig wants to change his left arm to normal. Feli explains that she does not know how to change it. Just as she is about to explain why Sig's arm is the way it is, she shifts into her divination ritual. Amitie calls on Sig to engage in a Puyo battle to calm Feli down. Once Feli is calmed down enough, she suggests that Sig and Amitie seek out the one known as "Glasses", saying that it is his fate to do so.
Klug
Sig's seventh opponent is Klug, who is the "Glasses" that Feli was referring to. Klug is irritated by their sudden intrusion, claiming that he is busy reading a very important spellbook, and asks that they leave him alone. When Sig asks him about his left arm, Klug ponders on it, saying that he senses a strong power emanating from it. He notes that this power is very similar to that of his book. Furthermore, whenver the two are near each other, he feels a strange feeling unlike any other. Despite all of these facts, Klug claims that he does not know anything about Sig's arm. Amitie suggests that Sig's arm and Klug's book could be related, but Klug does not agree. Klug then says that he will have a Puyo match with Sig as payback for wasting his time.
Ms. Accord
Sig's eighth and final opponent is Ms. Accord. Sig and Amitie arrive at Primp Town's Magic School, where they find Ms. Accord. Amitie says that Ms. Accord would have to know something about Sig's arm, and the two explain the situation to her, namely that Sig can't catch bugs with his left arm. Ms. Accord says that if Sig can beat her in a Puyo battle, then she will tell him how to fix his problem. When Sig wins, Ms. Accord suggests that Sig simply catch bugs with his right arm instead. Amitie is less than pleased at such an anticlimactic ending, but is fine with it as long as Sig is happy.
Other Characters' Stories
Amitie's Story
Sig features as Amitie's fourth opponent and tags along in her quest to discover the mystery behind her red puyo hat. He leads her to Klug, who he refers to as a "bookworm".
Witch's Story
Sig appears as Witch's fourth opponent. Here, Witch tries to take Sig's ladybug to use in her potion, to which Sig objects. However, after the match, Witch finds out that she can just use a bean dumpling in it's place instead, which leaves Sig to let out a traumatized moan.
Yu & Rei's Story
Sig is Yu & Rei's 6th opponent. Yu gives Sig a quiz where all of the answers amount to becoming a ghost, and if Sig were to answer correctly, they'd help him turn into a ghost. He promptly expresses uncertainty at this. Upon winning, Sig leaves as Yu announces all of the answers were right, much to her dismay.
Puyo Puyo Tetris
Sig appears in chapter 4-5, where Raffina asks him to move. Sig declines, which leads to Raffina questioning why he would reject a world full of chaos, having sensed an unusual energy from him. Sig says that no one would like chaos. Amitie rushes in, out of breath, wishing to battle Raffina to help her see the light again. Sig initiates the battle between them. After Amitie wins the battle, he insists she rests after she shows signs of dizziness.
He is not seen until chapter 6-5 in Amitie's memories, Amitie explains to Sig that he's in her memories and that she's supposed to have a puyo match, Sig is confused about the memories but has a puyo match with her. After their match, Amitie starts to ask Sig a question, he interrupts, saying that she'll have to ask the 'real' him, Amitie realises what he means and leaves, only for Sig to say that she doesn't get it.
Puyo Puyo Chronicle
Sig is recruited in the Bleuo Glacier area, where he is found half-asleep in the snow. He was with Lidelle in Primp Town prior to being transported to Ally's world, but became separated from her. His despondent state brings Ally to suggest that they should visit the Bug Paradise to cheer him up, so he joins the party and they all travel back to Grimp together.
Puyo Puyo Tetris 2
Sig plays a minor supporting role in Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 in the chapter set in Primp, where he is seemingly unaffected by Marle's influence unlike the other characters in Primp Town. In Lemres' substory, he concludes that Sig and Klug must have both been protected by the same power from Marle.
Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop
Sig is first found at the end of Amitie's episode. He is the last encounter in her episode, and he seems to be acting very differently from usual, acting hostile towards Amitie and showing annoyance when she calls him "Sig", claiming he does not need that name anymore. He escapes after battling Amitie.
In Lemres' episode, he confronts Meena and discovers that Sig was the person that Meena borrowed power from to transport everyone into the Dream World. Although Meena wants to keep Sig safe from everyone else, he claims he has no need for her since she already helped him unleash his power. Although Lemres defeats him in battle, Sig and Meena escape before Lemres can question them further about the situation.
He is encountered once more in Schezo's episode, where he protects Meena from being attacked by Schezo, since he still requires her power. Although Schezo asks what he is trying to accomplish, Sig refuses to answer, and manages to escape with her after Puyo battling with Schezo.
The fifth content update released on August 29th, 2024 added him as a playable character as well as his main story episode. His main story episode takes place shortly before the cast was transported to the Dream World and is told from Meena's perspective. After finishing his tutoring session with Ms. Accord, Sig goes out to catch bugs after school, but is interrupted in most of his attempts. Meanwhile, Meena follows him around and observes him, curious about the immense power hidden inside his left arm that could help her make her dreams into reality. When the two finally meet, he asks Meena if she is a bug and attempts to catch her, causing her to run away until he calms down. When the two finally talk, she explains that she is from the Dream World and cannot be seen by most people. Meena asks if she can borrow some of Sig's power to transform the nearby area into the Dream World so she can make people's dreams come true and befriend them. Although Sig does not fully understand her plan, he agrees to let her borrow some of his power as long as it would make everyone happy. After she successfully borrows some of it and promises to return it later, Sig comments that his head feels emptier than usual and begins to act strangely.
Trivia
- His birthday is June 16th (6/16), the same day as Possessed Klug, which is believed to be the original number of the beast.
- His specialty is sleeping with his eyes open.[1]
- His least favorite thing are ghosts.[1]
- Sig is one of the few characters who is not generally symmetrical. As a side-effect, he is given 2 different sets of art, one for facing left and one for facing right.
- The name "Sig" is a Nordic given name used in real life. Due to the Nordic naming tradition of taking half of the father's name and half of the mother's name to name a child, "Sig" is also included in many names of Scandinavian origin, such as Sigmund.
- In Japanese versions of Puyo Puyo games, Sig does not use a personal identifier. This detail was also specified in the Puyo Puyo 25th Anniversary book, where everyone's personal identifiers are listed.
- The other Sig does use the personal identifier 我 (wa) and it is in fact the same one that the Crimson Spirit uses. However, the other Sig's is written in hiragana and not in kanji.
- Sig's spell and repeater, Hydrangea and Acid respectively, seem to be linked in his blue color scheme as reference to hydrangeas turning blue when grown in acidic soil. He's likely intended to represent the acidic end of the pH scale, with Possessed Klug (who shares the spell Hydrangea in his red color scheme) representing the basic, or alkaline, end of the pH scale.
- In the English localization of Puyo Puyo Tetris and games following it, the spell Hydrangea is instead replaced by "Cobalt", likely referencing the actual element cobalt in extension to the color, cobalt blue. As demonstrated by how Cobalt II chloride changes from blue to red when it interacts with water and is slightly acidic.
- However, Acid is localized as "Acid Wash", essentially losing its connection to his ultimate spell.

Alternate Voices
- In Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary, he speaks in a higher voice than usual, and his laughter can be heard.
- In Puyo Puyo Tetris, the syllables are filled with many permutations of (Shi) and (Gu) (except for match start quotes from Swap rule).
- This joke is eventually reused for an alt in Puyo Puyo!! Quest, appropriately named Shigushigu Sig.
- In the English version, his tone becomes more emotional.
- In Puyo Puyo Chronicle, his pronunciation of the chants becomes an interrogative form.
- In Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, his voice becomes childlike, reminiscent of his Mini Puyo Fever voice from Puyo Puyo 7, but with a softer tone. He shares this motif with his fellow magic school students Amitie, Klug, Raffina and Lidelle.
- In the English version, he sounds more prepubescent and has more swagger, talking like a game show host.
- In Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop, his voice in both languages is deeper and more aggressive than his usual voice.
