Runelord is the final boss of Madou Monogatari S and a great mage who was imprisoned by a legendary hero 200 years ago in a labyrinth of the city of Rana.

Madou Monogatari

In Madou Monogatari S and the novel New Madou Monogatari: Schezo and the Flowers of Evil, Runelord is a mage who was sealed away 200 years ago. He is in pursuit of a successor to the title of Dark Mage, who must be able to wield the Dark Sword and use the spell Areiado.

True Madou Monogatari

In the novel True Madou Monogatari Sidestory: The Golden Hero, Runelord is depicted as a formless spiritual existence that takes control of mages to absorb their magical abilities, usually through exploiting some of their trauma. Runelord's current form is that of a young man named Zeke, who became distraught when he lost his romantic partner.

Appearance

Runelord appears to be a young man with long, white hair, red eyes, pale skin and pointed ears. He wears a golden circlet around his head, a dark green robe, and a gray scarf is draped around his body.

Personality

His personality is very sinister especially around Schezo or others and is said he talks as if he’s scheming something. In a Compile Club interview, he makes fun of Demiserf by calling him a nobody as well as greeting and treating him casually which angers Demiserf. He’s also very self-centered and treats himself highly. Those aspects of his personality are not present in Madou Monogatari: ARS and only appear in Compile Club and New Madou Monogatari, as he says he will take Schezo’s body and leave Rana if Schezo doesn’t want to comply with him.

Relationships

Schezo

At the age of 14, Schezo went on a field trip to the city of Rana and encountered Runelord within his labyrinth. Although he resisted becoming the next Dark Mage at first, Schezo ends up absorbing Runelord's influence and inheriting the title of Dark Mage as well as the Dark Sword.

Trivia

• As mentioned in the Compile Club interviews, Runelord has the ability to change his gender at will.
• Runelord has very few voice lines in the game, his only voiced lines being "「はーい どーぞ!」 " (Yes, Come in!) and 「しなさい !」(Prepare yourself!)
• Runelord seems to have a fatherly relationship with Schezo and says he feels responsible for Schezo's perverted behavior and he relates to Schezo.
