Puyo Puyo!! Quest information

Suketoudara (すけとうだら Suketōdara, lit. "Alaska Pollock") is a fish with arms and legs. He always greets people with a loud "Fiiish!", and loves to show off his mad dancing skills. His love for singing could contribute to his huge crush on Serilly. In most Puyo Puyo games, he starts a match by immediately filling his bottom four rows.

Biography

Appearance

Suketoudara takes the appearance of a stylized fish with big lips, with the upper part of his body is red in color while the lower half ranges from a white to cream in color. He also has tan-colored human-like arms and feet, which are located in where his pelvic and pectoral fins should go.

Personality

Suketoudara is a very bold character, making his presence known wherever he goes. He thinks very highly of himself, as in the Japanese versions of Puyo, he uses the first-person pronoun ore-sama, which is often used as an overly confident way to refer to oneself. His favorite hobby is dancing, as he will often appear on a scene with a cry of "Let's Dancing!". In the English translation of Puyo Puyo Tetris, Suketoudara peppers his speech with fish-related puns. He also seems to lean towards the romantic side, as he has eyes for Serilly, who only sees him as a friend.

Abilities

Suketoudara's spells include Surf Beat, Ripple Turn, Funky Wave, Soul Dive and Dancin' All Night. These mostly combine water maneuvers and dance moves, which allude to his nature as a fish and his dancing abilities. They are rendered in English as Surfin' Beats, Bubble Time, Do the Wave, and Fish is the word! In older games, those released prior to Puyo Puyo Tetris, his final spell was Finish.

Suketoudara harbors an infatuation with fellow sea creature Serilly, and while she likes him as well, only he has a romantic view of her.

History

Madou Monogatari series

Suketoudara debuted as a random enemy in Madou Monogatari 123.

Puyo Puyo (1992)

Suketoudara is the second opponent in Scenario mode. As Suketoudara dances, Arle repeatedly tries to talk to him. He eventually gets fed up and starts yelling.

In the English version, he is known as Goby Captain. Silvana claims that he is the weirdest thing that she has ever seen. Goby Captain concludes that Silvana is probably not an intelligent lifeform, and she replies by saying the same about him.

Puyo Puyo Tsu

Suketoudara resides on the fourth floor. He gets offended when Arle calls him ugly and brags on his human legs.

Puyo Puyo Sun

Suketoudara only appears in Arle's story. He hogs an oasis all to himself; however, the other sea creatures object to this and eventually swarm him.

Minna de Puyo Puyo

Whenever Suketoudara talks to Arle, Arle states that she has a sudden craving for seafood.

Puyo Puyo! 15th Anniversary

His wish is to give everyone the ability to do a solo dance at a dance party.

Puyo Puyo 7

Suketoudara appears in the Himalayas stage in Act 3. As Ringo and Amitie comment on the cold conditions, Ringo notices him, and is shocked at his strangeness. After he is beaten in a Puyo match, he joins Ringo and Amitie on their main quest, accompanying them until the Stonehenge stage.

If Amitie is chosen, Amitie shivers at the cold, and Suketoudara offers her to dance as a way to heat things up, and have a Puyo match. When encountering Rulue he accidentally enrages her by threatening to tell Satan about her violent tendencies. At Area 51, he doubts that Satan changes when he Transforms, Satan responds by initiating a Puyo Battle as “Demonstration”. As he marvels about the Bermuda Triangle, he sees Carbuncle. He notes that it’s unusual that he’s alone, they both have a Puyo Battle. Finally, they all reach Stonehenge, he sees Arle but says something about her seems off. “Arle” tries to convince him that she’s fine with a Puyo Battle. After this stage Ringo is warped away from him and Amitie, however he later reappears before the final battle with Ecolo.

Suketoudara is available as a red card in this game. He is in the same series with Fufufu and Ocean Prince, having similarly distributed skills and stats.

An identically designed alt, named Flame Suketoudara (炎のすけとうだら) is included as a special grant reward, obtainable from Famitsu App Android No.007.

Suketoudara is available as a playable character in this game. He is an Attack Type character.

• His birthday, April 29th, is International Dance Day.
• In Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine and Kirby's Avalanche, Frankly and Wispy Woods use his AI strategy.
• He is referred to as Walleye on the back cover of the Neo Geo Pocket Color Puyo Pop.
• Suketoudara appears in every Puyo Puyo game that contains Madou Monogatari's primary antagonists. (Schezo, Rulue, Satan) Thus, he has more appearances than any other Madou Monogatari random enemy excluding the Puyos themselves.
• Alternate voice notes:
  • In Puyo Puyo Tetris, his voice becomes higher-pitched, and more reminiscent of Gogotte or Otomo.
    • In the English version, his voice becomes deeper and more suave.
  • In Puyo Puyo Chronicle, his voice becomes lower-pitched. It resembles his Mega Puyo Rush voice in Puyo Puyo 7, but it sounds closer to his regular voice in Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary onwards than that.
  • In Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, Suketoudara's alternate voice is similar to the one heard in the original Puyo Puyo Tetris, though he speaks in a more softer, smoother tone.
    • In the English version, he sounds more gallant and sophisticated.
  • In Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop, Suketoudara's alternate voice is similar to the one heard in the Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, with the more softer, smoother tone.
• During the pre-release promotion of Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, the English Puyo Puyo Official Twitter account initially claimed that Suketoudara was "a powerful dark magician" in his character spotlight. The tweet was later deleted and reposted, replacing this detail with one about his "powerful dance moves."
• Although Suketoudara debuted as an enemy in Madou Monogatari 123, later Compile games such as Madou Monogatari (Saturn) disregarded the notion that there are more of his kind, presenting him as only an individual character. Beginning with Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary, SEGA games have depicted multiple Suketoudara in his cut-in for Funky Wave, as well as appearing in groups as the final battle in stages of Puyo Puyo!! Quest.
