Donguri Gaeru Hokkori Gaeru Ribbitie & Amitie

Donguri Gaeru is a frog that rolls around in an acorn top. He only communicates in ribbits (kero in the Japanese voice set). His name translates to "acorn frog" and is a pun on the Japanese word でんぐり返る (dengurigaeru) which means "to turn upside down".

Biography

Appearance

Donguri Gaeru is a green, spherical frog with a white belly that sits inside an acorn cap and wears the lower part of the acorn as a hat. He is part of a species of frog that inhabit the Nahe Woods according to trivia given in Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary.

Relationships

Amitie
In Puyo Puyo Fever 2, Amitie tries to pass Donguri Gaeru off as her long lost brother "Ribbitie" so that she can play Puyo against the Frankensteins. This was referenced again in Puyo Puyo!! Quest in the alternate card Ribbitie & Amitie.
Lidelle
As Lidelle frequently visits the Nahe Woods, she can communicate directly with Donguri Gaeru and often plays with him and Onion Pixie.

History

Puyo Puyo Fever

In Puyo Puyo Fever, he is very hyper and gets angry at Amitie for next to no reason, becoming her fourth opponent. What song his stage plays varies from version to version: in some, he uses the later theme. In others, such as the arcade version, he uses the earlier one.

Puyo Puyo Fever 2

In Puyo Puyo Fever 2, he actually has no major role in any story whatsoever, and is used as a prop by Amitie several times, like against the Frankensteins. He is, however, the first opponent in Sig's HaraHara Course, attacking him after Prince Salde suggests he wants to eat him.

Puyo Puyo! 15th Anniversary

In Puyo Puyo! 15th Anniversary, his wish is for a pond in the forest.

Puyo Puyo Tetris

Donguri Gaeru makes a non-playable cameo, distracting Schezo as Rulue gives her monologue on Satan and his green hair.

Puyo Puyo Chronicle

Donguri Gaeru is available as a Skill Battle-exclusive character, alongside Harpy, Seriri, Ragnus and Onion Pixy.

He is found in Bug Haven, where Arle and company bring Sig to cheer him up after finding him. Sig is unhappy about Donguri Gaeru eating bugs, and the player party challenges him to a Skill Battle-style boss battle.

Trivia

  • He shares a similar strategy to Nohoho, stacking Puyos to one side making large chains.
  • His playable status is replaced by Maguro in Puyo Puyo 7 and Ai in Puyo Puyo Tetris.
