Puyo Puyo!! Quest information | |
Possessed Klug is an alternate form of Klug, specifically the form he took after he became possessed by the demon imprisoned within the Tome of Sealing in Puyo Puyo Fever 2. The book contained the supposed evil parts of a demon whose remains became Sig.
It was sealed in Klug's book because it was supposedly dangerous. However, its power is questionable, because it was sealed half in jest. It could easily be unsealed from the book using the three items Lemres coincidentally happened to be delivering to Accord for safekeeping.
Biography
Personal History
Prior to being sealed, it was a book-loving demon that lived alone in a castle, and the Tome of Sealing was given to it as a prank by a group of humans that wanted to witness the book's effects. It is left unsaid if the demon did anything to warrant the humans' fear, but they seemed to be scared of its appearance. They left the book with a note saying that it was a gift, and half of its soul was sealed inside the book upon opening it. After the Crimson Spirit was sealed, a young boy that resembled the original demon was left behind. The authors of the Tome of Sealing were unsure what happened to this boy after the sealing.[3] According to Klug's Japanese profile in Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop, it used to be some kind of overlord (魔王 maō).
Appearance
Possessed Klug is, clearly, very similar to Klug, retaining the glasses and the wardrobe, though in a now dark red hue. It discards the graduation cap and makes Klug's appearance more disheveled by untucking his shirt and tousling his hair. In addition, it changes Klug's eye color from a light green to a dark red, and dons a crimson cape with a bow with a broken crimson stopwatch holding it together.
Klug remains in the Tome of Sealing in its place, while its original "spirit" emotes along with the demon's new body.
Personality
Possessed Klug's personality is prideful and arrogant, though it's implied in Puyo Puyo!! Quest to actually have a genuinely calm temperament, and is only angered due to its sealing within the Tome of Sealing. It also appears to have little disregard for those who desire its power, and seems to only sees those it possesses as tools. It is shown that despite being sealed for a long time, it's still able to enjoy itself when it's in Klug's body.
Abilities
Possessed Klug's magic abilities are based off of the color red, or otherwise red-colored objects. Its spells include Cardinal, Nebula, Ignis, Rubor Vini, Maroon, Pomegranate, Sandyx, Oxblood, Anima and Hydrangea.
Relationships
- Amitie
- Amitie is the only one to realize that Possessed Klug isn't really Klug in her Puyo Puyo Fever 2 HaraHara course. After defeating it, she unwittingly seals it back into the Tome of Sealing by taking the Sun Bookmark. She seems to notice that there are similarities between Sig's blue spirit that occasionally appears and the "red thing" in Klug's book.[4]
- Their interactions in subsequent drama CDs hint that Amitie senses something different about Klug whenever he's under the spirit's influence, but she never explicitly recognizes it again.
- Klug
- It possesses Klug during the events of Puyo Puyo Fever 2 in an attempt to regain its true vessel as explained in Sig's story. During other times it remains in the Tome of Sealing.
- While Possessed Klug makes no story appearances in games after Puyo Puyo Fever 2, its presence has been referenced several times. Such as in Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary when Amitie mentions that she can see the "red thing" that pokes out of Klug's book and Klug mentioning that the power in the Tome of Sealing and the power inside Sig feel similar.
- In Puyo Puyo Tetris, it reacts to Sig coming nearby and starts chattering. It also directly insults Klug in the Japanese, calling him a "wimpy four-eyes" when Klug tries to get it to calm down.
- In Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, its power seemingly repelled Marle's influence from taking control of Klug. It is unknown if it cares about Klug and did this willingly or it was merely a side effect of its influence.
- Sig
- Sig is the descendant of Possessed Klug's other half that remained unsealed as told within the Tome of Sealing and according to Possessed Klug, its true vessel that is needed to bring out its full power.
- Amitie also comments in Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary during Sig's route that the "blue thing" that shows up around Sig and the "red thing" that pops out from Klug's book have a similar air about them. Klug brushes it off as a mere coincidence, but says that he does feel a strange power coming from his book whenever Sig is nearby.
History
Puyo Puyo Fever 2
In Puyo Puyo Fever 2, Possessed Klug serves as the final boss for Raffina's, Amitie's, and Sig's HaraHara Courses. During Amitie's quest, she accidentally sets Klug free from the demon by taking away the Sun Bookmark, sealing it once again and reverting Klug back to his former self. Sig and Raffina however only battle it for specific items they need: Sig for the Lantern of Star to transform Salde into a fish, and Raffina for the Stone of Moon to use as a beauty enhancer.
Puyo Puyo 7
In Puyo Puyo 7, Possessed Klug appears as Klug's adult form in Transformation. This could imply that Klug is possessed whenever her enters said form. Since Possessed Klug serves no role in the story however, it was likely intended as a visual gag, or simply to save time on animation.
In this game, its artwork consists of half new and half recycled artwork from Puyo Puyo Fever 2. Due to this, it has a slightly unique animation compared to standard Klug and his child version. However, the second animation consists of new art drawn to fit Klug's normal animation.
Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary
In Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary, Possessed Klug serves as an alternate character for Klug. It can be purchased from the shop for 2424 points. Unlike in Puyo Puyo 7, it uses unique character art and animations when compared to Klug. As it is only an alternate character, it uses Klug's drop set and character power in this game. It serves no role in the game's story nor can it be used in the game's story mode.
Possessed Klug appears as the opponent for Mission Puyo in the game's Challenge Battle mode.
Puyo Puyo Drama CD
Possessed Klug makes multiple minor appearances in various drama CDs. Its most notable appearances are in Volume 2, Volume 4, Volume 7, and the 25th Anniversary Drama CDs.
Puyo Puyo!! Quest
- For this character's stats in Puyo Puyo!! Quest, see PPQ:Strange Klug.
Possessed Klug is available as a red card in this game, added on February 1, 2014. It is available in Magic Stone Gacha in limited periods only. It is in the same series with Accord, Satan, Dark Arle and Ecolo, having similarly distributed skills and stats.
Puyo Puyo Tetris 2
Possessed Klug, Serilly, Rafisol, and Yu & Rei were announced on February 4, 2021 in the Puyo Day 2021 stream to be the next wave characters to be added in the game as free DLC. It was added to the game on the same day.
Trivia
- Possessed Klug uses a unique voice pattern in Puyo Puyo Fever 2.
- Possessed Klug's Japanese name literally translates to "Suspicious Klug".
- Interestingly, the in game English text in Puyo Puyo Fever 2 refers to Possessed Klug as "Ayashii Klug."
- Incidentally, both it and Sig have the birthday June 16th, a date that represents the believed-original number of the beast.
- Possessed Klug's profile in Puyo Puyo Fever 2 lacks the character for "life" (生) when listing its birthday, instead its birthday is just listed with the character for "day" (日). The other characters in the game have their birthdays listed with 日生. [5]
- In Quest, Possessed Klug is considered a different character from Klug. This property is shared with Arle/Dark Arle/Doppelganger Arle/Valkyrie Arle and Ringo/Poison Ringo.
- Possessed Klug is the only alternate character in Puyo Puyo 20th Anniversary to have appeared in other games not including Quest. It is also one of the alt characters to have a Puyo Fest card in Quest (Yellow Possessed Klug).
- Possessed Klug's red color scheme and final spell Hydrangea are likely references to how hydrangeas will turn a red color if grown in basic soil. It likely represents the basic end of the pH scale in opposition to Sig, whose spells are themed around the acidic end of the pH scale.
Alternate Voices
- In Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, its voice becomes calmer.
- In the English version, its voice becomes grander and all mentions of darkness are replaced with light.
