Umapuyo (うまぷよ) was a web browser game developed by SEGA as a collaboration with the Japanese Racing Association. This collaboration featured multiple Puyo Puyo characters and several horses from the Japanese Racing Association Hall of Fame in two minigames: Umapuyo Race and Umapuyo Jump.

Umapuyo Race featured both a single-player mode and an online multiplayer mode where players could race against each other.

Single-player mode consisted of six races based off of real graded Japanese races: Kyoto Kinen, Hanshin Daishoten, Osaka Hai, Tenno Sho (Spring), Takarazuka Kinen and Arima Kinen.[1]

The playable jockeys when starting the game were Arle, Ringo, and Amitie. Carbuncle, Schezo, and Satan were unlockable characters. The rest of the cast appeared only during races. Different jockeys had different chaining types, similar to the play styles used in Fever Mode. There were balanced jockeys, who maintain average speeds regardless of chain size, jockeys who gain more speed with bigger chains, and jockeys who gain more speed with smaller chains.

Players could customize their horse's coat color and name. There was also an option to randomize your horse's name.

During races, players were pit against 15 other racers and must clear Puyo in an 8x8 field by matching 4 Puyo of the same color. The gameplay was similar to Puyo Puyo!! Quest Arcade, but players could only swap positions of adjacent Puyos rather than moving them around the field freely.

Umapuyo Jump

Umapuyo Jump gameplay

In Umapuyo Jump, the player guided an Umapuyo in an endless jumping minigame to rescue twenty famous racehorses who were abducted into space.

As the player climbed higher and higher, the platforms would become narrower or they would crumble if you lingered on them for too long. Players could view the racehorses they rescued from the main menu of this minigame. This mode was single-player only, but it was possible to share your high score via social media.
