Mado Monogatari: Fia and the Wondrous Academy (魔導物語 フィアと不思議な学校 Madō monogatari fia to fushigi na gakkō) is a game developed by Sting and published by Compile Heart in collaboration with Sega and D4 Enterprises. The story follows the young magician Fia and her studies at the Ancient Magic Academy. Unlike previous Madou Monogatari entries, the game introduces real-time combat with randomly generated dungeons, a party system, and a skill tree system.

Mado Monogatari: Fia and the Wondrous Academy is a 3D dungeon-crawling game with real-time combat. It also has elements of social simulation and the ability to learn new skills via a skill tree system.[1]

Development

Pre-release

It was first announced in a Famitsu article on October 10th, 2023 with the title Madou Monogatari 4 (Working Title) (魔導物語4(仮) Madō Monogatari 4 (Kari)) and was planned to release sometime in summer 2024.[2] It was later delayed to November 28th, 2024 in a Famitsu article published on July 10th, 2024. [3]

The game was published by Compile Heart, the successor to the original Compile who created the Madou Monogatari franchise. Since D4 Enterprises and Sega are collaborating on this title, characters from both Puyo Puyo and Madou Monogatari are planned to appear in the full game. Sting, the developing company, apparently has many connections to Compile as well.[4]

In an interview with gaming website Touch Arcade about the release of Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop with the Puyo Puyo series producer Mizuki Hosoyamada, he mentioned that he was involved in the production of Madou Monogatari 4. At the time of writing, he mentioned reviewing the characters included in the game.[5]

The game's finalized title, Madou Monogatari: Fia and the Mysterious School (魔導物語 フィアと不思議な学校 Madō monogatari fia to fushigi na gakkō) was announced in a Weekly Famitsu issue that was previewed on July 9th, 2024.[3]

This article revealed the names of the characters, credited the staff working on the game, and confirmed that the game would be a dungeon crawler with 3D environments. The release date was also changed in this article, as the game's release was delayed to November 28th, 2024.[6][1] On August 7th, 2024, the website was updated with additional story information, gameplay information, and additional characters: Rivan, Egarde, Wister, Roy, Rosemary, Black Cat, and Owl.

The official English and French releases were announced on February 18th, 2025 and the game's title was finalized as Mado Monogatari: Fia and the Wondrous Academy. On May 1st, 2025, its release date and its preorder bonuses were announced for July 29th, 2025. The English and French preorder bonuses includes an artbook, a reversible cover sleeve, a mini shikishi board, the official soundtrack, an exclusive trading card, and a mini curry spoon if ordered from Idea Factory International Online's official store.[7]
