Chain Simulator (れんしゅうノート Renshū noto) is a game mode introduced in Puyo Puyo 7 that also appears in Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary and Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop. It should not be confused with the Puyo Nexus chain simulator.

This mode can be found in the School menu in Puyo Puyo 7 and Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary, alongside the tutorials. In Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop, the mode can instead be found from the main menu.

Gameplay

The main draw of the Chain Simulator is that it allows players to freely arrange Puyos in whatever order they want, based on a variety of rulesets. The player can then playback their chain to see how much Garbage Puyo would be sent over to the opponent, how many points would be earned, and how long the chain is. Chain animations can also play out, if they are activated. When playing back the chain, the player can pause, move ahead one step, restart, or fast forward to the end. Preset chains can also be selected, and the player can specify how many Puyo colors are present and how long the chain is.

Once the player is satisfied with their chain, they can then save them for future reference, or share them with other players. In Puyo Puyo 7 and Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary, saved chains are stored as passwords, while in Puyo Puyo Puzzle Pop, they are also stored as QR codes.
