Utako Yoshino (芳野 詩子, Yoshino Utako) is a freelance writer and game planner who previously worked with Sega on Sonic the Hedgehog and Puyo Puyo. She is best known as the scenario writer of Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary, Puyo Puyo Tetris, and Puyo Puyo Tetris 2.
Biography
Yoshino began working for Sega in 2007 and started as a level designer for Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Generations before working on the Puyo Puyo series.
Her first major work in the Puyo Puyo series was as the game designer of Puyo Puyo!! 20th Anniversary. According to an interview, her responsibilities as game designer were not clearly outlined and she took on several other directorial responsibilities. In addition to writing the design documents, script, trivia, and game layout, she also helped to come up with the mode Pair Puyo so that beginners could team up with more experienced players.[1]
Yoshino no longer works at Sega and currently works as a freelance writer. Sega still commissions her to write stories for games, such as in the case of Puyo Puyo Tetris 2. Although she is no longer a Sega employee, she occasionally posts her artwork and thoughts on the characters and the games on her Twitter.[2]
She has authored various children's novels and currently resides in Tokyo with her pet dog Ende.[3]
