Poison Ringo

Poison Ringo is a mysterious and shady doppelganger of Ringo who debuted in Puyo Puyo!! Quest. She is a girl that goes around and insists people eat the strange-looking apples she offers them. She speaks politely and in a hushed tone, but comes across as secretive and suspicious. Her origin and her true intentions are entirely unknown. Contributing to her mysterious nature, it's hard to discern which of her words are the truth and which are lies, a skill that she likes using to mess with others. She often laughs softly to herself. Similarly to her counterpart, Poison Ringo likes to sing, but it's hard to tell whether her words are a song or some kind of spell. She is prone to getting carried away and forgetting her surroundings. She is confident in her own abilities and isn't above using force in certain situations. Her catchphrase is "Let's... Poison!".

The true nature of Poison Ringo's apples are also a mystery. While Poison Ringo's name and the songs she sings about poison apples imply that they are poisonous, Richard concludes in the story Wanted!? The Excellent Warlock after being forced to taste one of the apples that they aren't dangerous. Poison Ringo's response to this is that she has to "adjust the concentration of 'Poison' to the exact effective amount". Regardless, they are very eye-catching and give off a sickly sweet smell that compels others to eat it. Additionally, those who have eaten one have claimed that it's very delicious, though none are ever seen trying it.

Relationships

[★7] Poison Ringo [★7] Ringo Poison Ringo and Ringo
Their exact relationship is unclear, but Ringo doesn't seem to be aware of Poison Ringo's existence. Their only implied interaction is in [★7] Princess Ringo's art and dialogue, in which Ringo has recieved one of Poison Ringo's dubious apples. While she is rightfully suspicious of the apple, her description states that she had recieved it from a complete stranger. Since she doesn't make any comments on this stranger, it's unlikely Ringo noticed Poison Ringo's extremely similar appearance to her. However, according to her dialogue, "Poison Ringo" is a name she chose herself, so it's likely that Poison Ringo is aware of who Ringo is to some extent.

Trivia

  • Upon needing to introduce herself, Poison Ringo cites "Poison Ringo" as her chosen name if she would have to force one upon herself. The implications of this are a mystery.
  • Due to her tendency to offer others poison apples, she is likely based on the Evil Queen from the fairy tale Snow White.
    • Almost 5 years after Poison Ringo's introduction, Ringo would recieve an alternate costume based on Snow White herself.
      • 2 years later, this Ringo alt would recieve new dialogue and art that references Poison Ringo.
    • The use of poisoned apples also has roots in witchcraft, which may contribute to her witch-like appearance. [citation needed]
  • Poison Ringo's catchphrase, "Let's... Poison!", is similar to Ringo's catchphrase of "Let's... Puyo Battle!".
