The Spirits (精霊) are a series of 5 characters introduced in Puyo Puyo!! Quest. They are spirits who originate from the Fairy World (妖精の世界) and have ventured to Pwurp Island upon being summoned there. With the exception of Gnome, their speech is written in katakana, which is a common characteristic of non-human characters.[1] Apart from Frau, the first 4 members of the series are inspired by Paracelsus' concept of elementals.
They can become Great Spirits (大精霊) when their desires resonate with the power of nature, granting them newfound strength. This surge in power also causes certain changes in their physical form.

Salamander is a fire fairy from the Fairy World. They have a fearless and friendly personality. They have confidence in their fire magic and strive to become stronger. They are fond of and curious about humans and frequently try to interact with them, dreaming to become friends with as many as they can. They wish to be helpful to humans and teach them about the charm of fairies, fostering a relationship between the two. As they also enjoy new experiences, they are fond of Pwurp Island as well. They are hot to the touch and worry about accidentally burning others. In their young form, their communication is poor and they can only speak using short phrases and broken words. While they still find words to be difficult in their present form, they believe that their flames are enough to show their high spirit.
As a Great Spirit, they have become powered up from their desire to become closer to humans. Their newfound strength has bolstered their enthusiasm, and they wish to use it to create a world where humans and fairies can live in harmony. They are a fan of the horns that they've gained in this form.

Undine is a water fairy from the Fairy World. She is a cheerful prankster, though she can be naive, as she expresses unfamiliarity with some human words and concepts. Her abilities include water manipulation and the power to create rain. Since her body is made of water, she is able to shapeshift into anything. She likes to use her abilities to pull pranks on others, such as hiding in puddles and scaring others by splashing them. She enjoys seeing how people react to her pranks, which usually involve water. However, her pranks are shown to sometimes help others. She is shown to enjoy painting. When she was originally summoned to Pwurp Island, she had forgotten her identity, purpose, and original form, instead appearing as a water slime. She sometimes will add "wobble" (プル) to her sentences.
As a Great Spirit, she has become powered up from her desire to have as much fun as she can. She is thinking of new pranks to pull with her newfound power, and claims she is trying to make a sea that isn't salty. She appears to have grown taller in this form.
Trivia

- She is named after and based off of the mythological Undine.
- Painting Undine's Magical Painting Set is said to be made by a certain wizard for children who enjoy painting.
