The New Animals (新どうぶつ) are a series of 5 characters introduced in Puyo Puyo!! Quest. They are various animals who are based on the puns within their names. Their in-game title as the "New" Animals is likely due to the prior existence of the Animal Series, which consists of returning Puyo Puyo characters Sasori Man, Owlbear, Samurai Mole, Cait Sith, and Cockatrice.

Osaki is a kitsune yokai with the ability to transform between human and fox, as well as breathe will-o-wisps from her mouth. She has confidence in her power and speaks in a somewhat antiquated manner. Her status as a yokai is quite high, and so she will sometimes exude an aura of self-importance. The will-o-wisps that she breathes are able to create illusions, though she becomes worried when she can easily fool or scare others. She claims that her flames can be used for more than creating illusions, and she also uses them to create light in dark areas. She refuses to reveal which form of hers is her true one, though her dialogue may hint that her human form is illusory. She seems to become flustered when expressing affection towards others.
Trivia
- A common aspect of kitsune folklore is the number of tails a fox spirit can have; A kitsune's number of tails signifies their age as well as their power, with a kitsune able to have up to nine.
- Osaki's human-esque form is shown to have nine tails, while her fox form has two.

- The ability to transform into a human, specifically a young woman, is also a trait of many fox spirits in folklore.

- Osaki's ability to create will-o-wisps may be inspired by the kitsunebi, atmospheric ghost lights which are said to be created and used by kitsune to lead travelers astray.

- [★5] Osaki, [★6] Osaki, and [★7] Osaki's artwork all show her performing the silent fox gesture with one of her hands.
- This is likely a reference to a traditional hand game called "kitsune-ken", which is similar in nature to rock-paper-scissors.
