Hotaru Ikas are a species of kind squid fairies from Puyo Puyo!! Quest. They show up to lost travelers to guide them to safety, and then disappear suddenly after doing so. Their origins and ability to find lost people are both shrouded in mystery. They have the ability to transform from the form of a squid to a young girl, which they claim is their true form. They are named after the firefly squid. There are 5 color variants; Ruby, Sapphire, Tourmaline, Topaz, and Onyx. These names are all derived from the names of gemstones. Their lamps shine the same color as them.

Hotaru Ikas have different personalities depending on their color. Ruby Hotaru Ikas are fiery and enthusiastic, Sapphire Hotaru Ikas are shy and hesitant, Tourmaline Hotaru Ikas are impatient and frequently stutter, Topaz Hotaru Ikas are sociable and extend their syllables when they speak, and Onyx Hotaru Ikas are jolly and sing their words.
