Chagamas are a friendly species of tanuki-like creatures introduced in Puyo Puyo!! Quest. They desperately crave attention and will stick by anyone who gives it to them. Their bushy tails are a point of pride and they ask others not to step on them. They have the ability to disguise themselves using the form of a human male. They are named after chagama, a kettle used in Japanese tea ceremonies of which they are shown to wear. They appear in Puyo Puyo!! Quest as common enemies during Quests. There are 5 types of Chagama; Rosered, Skyblue, Grassgreen, Golden, and Lavender.
Each color Chagama is said to have minor differences in personality; Rosered Chagamas have a mischievous side to them, Skyblue Chagamas get carried away easily, Grassgreen Chagamas are said to have simple personalities, Golden Chagamas are said to have a serious disposition, and Lavender Chagamas are mysterious in nature. Despite these stated differences, all Chagamas so far have shared the same dialogue lines.
Trivia
- Chagamas are inspired by the folktale Bunbuku Chagama, which features the yokai Bake-danuki.
- The bake-danuki also has the ability to shapeshift into other things, particularly people.
