Title Screen

If you input a special button combination at this screen, you can unlock almost everything in the game. However, unlike Puyo Puyo Tetris, this cheat will not unlock the cutscenes from the game's story.

While holding L + R, press the buttons in the following order: ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ → → ← ← X X B B Y Y A

A different sound effect will play if you did it correctly.

Main Menu

  1. RPG Mode - Start the single player story mode, or set up a local multiplayer boss battle with your friends.
  2. Single Player - Play against CPUs are practice in Endless Modes.
  3. Multiplayer - Play head-to-head competitive Puyo with your friends locally
  4. Lesson - View chaining and gameplay tutorials
  5. Internet - Connect online for matches, DLC, and Miiverse[1]
  6. My Data - View your records and change game settings

RPG Mode

Select the option on the left to continue the story mode where you last saved.

Select the option on the right to play multiplayer boss battles.

If you press X on this menu, you can delete your save file.

Everybodyboss.png

You can fight bosses together with your real life friends using these options.

RPG Mode - Ingame Menus

Overworld.png

This is the the overworld you can move around in.

Press Y to toggle the map zoom. When the map is zoomed in, you can see enemy markers.

Press X to open the menu.

  • Team - edit your team and equip cards
  • Quest - view your active quests
  • Cards - view and upgrade the cards you can equip
  • Save - saves the game. After saving, the Yes/No prompt asks if you want to return to the main menu.

  • Equip Cards - equip the item cards you've collected
  • Press Y to drop a character from the current team
  • Press X to view the character's status
  • Press L or R to switch between saved teams

  1. Select a slot to equip a card
  2. Select a card with A. You can also sort your items with Y, or discard an item with X.
  3. In the third image, you see three choices
    1. Equip - equips the card to the slot chosen earlier
    2. Upgrade - upgrade the selected card by sacrificing another card
    3. Lock - lock the card to prevent you from discarding it or sacrificing it

Press L and R to change pages and view different modes.

Once you select a mode, you'll be asked to choose the number of computer opponents, or if you want to fight CPUs endlessly (Survival).

Character Select

  • Press X to switch to a character's alternate voice. You can buy these as DLC or from the point shop.
  • Hold L while selecting a character to set the AI to its maximum difficulty (Core AI)
  • Press Start to automatically confirm all choices.
Match Setup

  • Basically, this is another difficulty selection
    • Sweet = 3 colors, easier AI, slow drop speed
    • Mild = 4 colors. The standard competitive ruleset
    • Spicy = 5 colors. You'll want to hate yourself.
  • Hold L while selecting your handicap to make the AI play for you instead.
Decor Settings

  • Change your Puyo style, BGM, and turn the SFX on or off.
  • You can buy more Puyo styles from the point shop.
  • Choose Confirm to save your settings.
Game Settings (Puyo Puyo 2)

  • Points to win - the number of rounds needed to win the match. You can set this up to 100.
  • Margin Time - After the specified number of seconds pass, damage dealt will increase. Think of it as a hurry up / sudden death mechanic.
  • Chain Requirement - Set the minimum chain length needed to send garbage. You can set the requirement up to a 20 Chain.
  • Target Point - Lower target point = more garbage sent by chains
  • Puyo needed to pop - Change the need Puyo that need to be grouped together for them to pop.
  • Garbage Type - ふつう = normal garbage; かたぷよ = Hard Garbage (you need to pop puyo next to them twice, instead of once, for them to clear).


Lesson

  • Basics - an overview of basic controls chaining mechanics (e.g. connect 4 Puyo to clear them)
  • Implementation - learn to chain using Stairs, Sandwich, and Transitions
  • Rules - an explanation of the different Puyo rulesets (e.g. Puyo Puyo 1, Puyo Puyo 2, SUN, Fever, etc.)

Internet

When you select the Internet option, you'll be asked to confirm whether you want to connect.

  • はい = yes
  • いいえ = no
Districtregion.png

When you first connect, you'll be asked to set your location in Japan for the purposes of online rankings.

If you don't live in Japan, you can just leave it as なし (none)

  • Puzzle League - Play "best of 3" ranked matches against players around the world.
  • Club - Set up friendly rooms with your friends
  • Miiverse - Connect to Miiverse[2]
  • My Data - View your records and edit settings without disconnecting from wifi
  • Friend List - View the online status of users from your list of registered Friend Codes
  • DLC Shop - Purchase extra content such as Voice Changes (doesn't work if your 3DS isn't Japanese)

Puzzle League

You can choose to play with 3 rulesets: Skill Battle, Puyo Puyo 2, and Fever

  • あいさつ: Send greetings to your opponent, such as はじめまして (Nice to meet you)
  • じゅんびOK!: Confirm you're ready to start the match

Club

Press X to make your own room.

Press Y to enter a friend's 14 digit room code. Your friend can get the room code from the top screen (see graphic).

Creating Rooms

Press L and R to change pages and edit different settings. You can select a character to appear as the icon for the room.

The last page has something to do with the room's description but who really cares about that lol

Joining Rooms

Just press A on the name of the room you want to join. You'll be shown 3 options.

  • Join Room
  • Room Rankings - show the win counts of everyone who's played in the room
  • Delete Room - deletes the room from your club list

My Data

  • Records - view your performance in different aspects of the game
  • Options - change game settings
  • Gallery - view cutscenes, sound effects, and character voices
  • Trophy Collection - view your achievements
  • Team - edit your Skill Battle teams
  • Shop - use in-game points to purchase different Puyo skins, game modes, and alternate voice tracks for your characters.

Options

You can press L and R to change pages. Press Y to return everything to their default settings.

  • My character - choose the character who's selected by default. This also chooses who appears on your online player card.
  • Ghost Puyo - turn on/off the dots that appear on the field to help you place your piece
  • Character Animation - turn on/off the character cut-ins that appear when you make chains
  • Skill Battle Assist - turn on/off the pre-made 3 Chain given to you in RPG Mode battles.
