Existence

Fusion stuffs

This is where I will put all of my Fusion mode related things. I want to research this mode thoroughly, because I feel like it deserves more attention.

This is still far from finished. And im probably not gonna finish this anytime soon.

Piece Generation

Tsumo Piece Behavior

Tsumo pieces switch between Puyos and Tetriminos every second. However, while they technically start as a Tetrimino, they turn into Puyos after just a few frames, so they technically always start as Puyos. Im mentioning this because the Tsumo piece may need to be used to contunue combos, and if you press the up button too fast, you will drop it as a Tetrimino, likely breaking your combo. Outside of this, due to the piece phasing between being Puyo and a Tetrimino every second, its impossible to drop them down as a Tetrimino without ending the combo, unless a Puyo Chain has popped during the time, since that refreshes the combo time.

Here is a list of what all Tsumo pieces look like in Puyo form: https://puyonexus.com/chainsim/chain/2PUgR

Keep in mind that this is how they look when they drop into the field, without having rotated them.

Mix Chains

Characters shout "Mix Chain" if you do a Line Clear after popping a Puyo Chain, and vice versa. Does this increase the amount of garbage sent?

I did some small expiriments:

I did a 2 Chain, both chains had 4 Puyos each. The opponent had 3 Garbage at the end. I observed:

  • The 1st Puyo chain dealt 0 garbage.
  • The 2nd Puyo chain dealt 3 garbage.

(This also means the Garbage Rate in Fusion is somewhere between 100 and 120, I need to test this further)

Then I did a Tetris 2-Combo, both with 1 lines each. The opponent had 9 Garbage at the end. I observed:

  • The 1st Tetris Combo dealt 3 garbage.
  • The 2nd Tetris Combo dealt 6 garbage.

(Im not sure if Line Clear Garbage is calculated the same way as Puyo garbage, but if it is, its likely that the garbage rate is 110?)

Now, I did a mixchain. I made a 1-Line Clear, then made a Puyo Chain of 4 Puyos. The opponent had 6 garbage at the end. I observed:

  • The 1-Line Clear dealt 3 garbage.
  • The Puyo chain dealt 3 garbage.

Then I did it the other way around. The opponent also had 6 garbage at the end. I observed:

  • The Puyo Chain dealt 0 garbage.
  • The 1-Line Clear dealt 6 garbage.

Conclusion: doing a Mix Chain doesn't increase the power of the combo itself, unless the Multiplier is really low and not visible with small chains. Should you refrain from doing Mix Chains? Of course not! Mix Chains are not a bad thing to do, so always use both Puyo and Tetris to your advantage.

Line Clear damage chart

This Table shows how much damage different kinds of Line Clears do without Combos. Being part of a combo likely powers them up a bit.

Tetris 16
Tetris Plus (5 Lines) 21
Tetris Plus (6 Lines) Unknown
