Image
Starting on about February 12, Sega created a little teaser site here promising information about a new game of theirs. The thread following the teaser site is here. Being that the only information given were silhouettes of a girl(?) throwing an apple, most people didn't speculate much about what the new game would be. Still, the extreme similarities between the way the silhouette and PPF-style characters was enough to get some people (myself not included) hoping for a new Puyo game. The teaser promised more information at a later specified date

Of course, with Sega being typical Image, the big "reveal" ended up being another trailer teasing a few more graphics, the phrase "What's 247?", and another date to watch out for. This blue-balling cat-and-mouse game went on all the way until March 24th, when they released a final trailer showing distinctively Puyo graphics and characters, and a set date for a formal announcement in the April 3rd issue of Famitsu.

Now that scans of the issue have been linked, we've got confirmation that the game indeed is Puyo Puyo 7.

Momochi descends from the moon to bring you the Famitsu article in English:
Momochi wrote:I'm glad it has the tutorial, the chain maker, and the Endless Match.
Brief translation of Famitsu (it is the biggest video game magazine in Japan):

News Flash! The 18-year-old popular puzzle game series is releasing a new game for 3 platforms!
Aim for big chains and come-from-behind with the new rule "Transformation!" Puyopuyo 7
We got information that the newest game of the popular puzzle game "Puyopuyo" is to be for 3 platforms. In this first report, we tell the attraction of this newest game. With the new rule, characters transform into grown-ups and chibis!

Story: Suddenly, a lot of "Puyopuyos" have fallen from the sky over Andou Ringo's school. A mysterious girl "Arle" tells her how to pop Puyos, and she has to play "Puyo Matches" with the people at school...

ANDOU Ringo: The protagonist, a junior high school girl (so she's 12-15 years old) in Suzuran (lily of the valley) shopping district. She is a member of the physics club, which is actually a club for anything. (It sounds like a typical place name. I don't think Suzuran shopping district is meant to be in Tokyo but somewhere in Japan.)
Arle: A magician in the making from another world(?). Something is strange about her this time.
Amitie: A student of Magic School from another world(?).
Carbuncle: A strange creature always with Arle. He can shoot beams from his forehead.
Many more characters from the former series!!

Fight against Dark Arle Army to protect the world!!
Episode 1: SOS! The School in Flood (VS Skeleton T) - The school's gonna be buried under "Puyos"!? The first match is simply... Puyo Match with Tsu rule!
It has a story mode and a lot of other modes!

In the new "Transformation" mode, erasing Nuisance Puyos and offsetting fill the Transformation gauge. When it gets full, you go into 2 "Transformation Modes," "Little Puyo Fever" (characters transform into kids) and "Giant Puyo Rush" (into grown-ups).
Little Puyo Fever: This mode erases all of your Puyos and "Little Puyos" fall in chains. You can make big chains easily. It is like Fever Mode from PPF.
Giant Puyo Rush: "Giant Puyos" fall. These Puyos will pop when 3 of the same color connect. In this mode, erasing Puyos after another erasing makes chains ("Added Chain"). Keep Adding and make chains bigger!
Image
Daihenshin Mode
[float=left]Image[/float]Selecting Henshin

At the start of each game, you can choose one of either "Deka", "Passive", or "Chibi" modes. Deka and Chibi will always cause you to jump into their respective transformations, while the henshin you launch into during Passive may depend on the color of the last Puyo popped.[float=left][/float]
[float=right]Image[/float]Quick Drop

You can immediately set down puyo by pressing "Up", although the usual method of holding "Down" still works. You can only use quick drop in Daihenshin mode.[float=left][/float]
[float=left]Image[/float]Going into Henshin

Offsetting nuisance puyo or erasing nuisance puyo off your side of the field increaes your Henshin gauge by one bar per action. This also increases your Henshin time. When seven bars fill up your Henshin gauge, Henshin occurs. You'll enter the type of Henshin prescribed by what you selected at the beginning of the game. Henshin mode continues until your Henshin time reaches zero. During Henshin, you will not get Game Over even if puyos reach X. Instead, your Henshin time decreases greatly.[float=left][/float]

Deka Puyo Henshin & Chibi Puyo Henshin
Deka Puyo Henshin (Giant Puyo Rush)
With Deka Puyo, three like-colored puyo are all that are necessary to pop them. By clearing puyo on the 3x6 board within the time limit, the cleared puyo are added onto a continuous Extra Chain. An Extra Chain of up to 99 is possible.

Chibi Puyo Henshin (Tiny Puyo Fever)
Your Puyo become tiny in Chibi Puyo mode. In this mode, chains are laid out for you on a 10x18 board. By successfully finding the trigger point, larger pre-made chains can be obtained, while failing to find the trigger point leads to smaller pre-made chains. By utilizing Fever extensions, a maximum chain of 47 is possible.

Standard Modes
Many classic Puyo modes are also available. You can have matches of between 2-8 players in teams or solo in Puyo Puyo, Puyo Puyo Tsuu, and Puyo Puyo Fever, and 2-4 players in Mission Puyo.

Puyo Puyo
The original Puyo Puyo mode. Offsetting is not possible in this mode. Nuisance Puyo will fall as soon as your chain ends. Rotation techniques are effective in this mode.

Puyo Puyo Tsuu
Offsetting was introduced in this mode. When nuisance puyo are about to fall on you, completing your own chain reduces the amount of nuisance puyo that will drop on you by amount of the point value of the chains. You can only send garbage to the opponent by exceeding the point value of the total amount of nuisance puyo about to fall on your side of the board.

Puyo Puyo Fever
Enter Fever mode by successively offsetting nuisance puyo by your opponent. Here, chains are premade for you, and increase in size depending on your success at clearing the chains, or by achieving All Clears.

Mission Puyo
Be the first to clear tasks set out for you to win this mode. Tasks include "Clear 5 or more Puyo at once", "Get a chain of 3 or more", or "Get exactly a 2 chain."

School
School (????) is designed to help budding Puyo players get better at chaining and playing the game in general. It features three different modes of varying design. The producer of Puyo 7 has stated that his goal is to get players who can only do 2 or 3 chains with regularity to start doing 7-chains easily.

Image

Primer
The basic rules of Puyo, from Foundation to Technique to the various game rules can be learned from Ichi.

Practice
Drills to pratice techniques ranging from chaining to transitioning.

Study Notes
Image

Build and test your own chains to your heart's desire. You can either start from scratch or a base pattern with a set number of chains and colors already set. Chains can be swapped between players via a password system, which will be intercompatible with the PSP and Wii versions of Puyo 7.

Image
Puyo Puyo 7 has nineteen characters, many whom are from previous games. You start out with twelve characters, and unlock the other seven through Story mode.

I went ahead and shoved the relevant stuff here on the wiki.
Driving Puyo Nexus off topic since 2008.

Too many people have self-replicating sigs about marijuana. If you think these people should be stopped, copy this into your sig.

Not sure how relevant this is, but Arle is wearing a blue version of the protagonist's outfit.

Also, can someone translate the scan? I think that could help alot.

And what the fuck is on Amitie's head?

And it's good to know that Fever mode is still in the game.

What happened to all the epic April's Fool posts? Anyway, Skeleton-T confirmed! And it seems the character have different looks depending on what mode you're playing? Chibi characters for "Chibi Puyo Fever" and grown-up characters for Giant Mode? I hope there will be a normal Fever mode where all the characters look normal, because Amitie's school outfit looks awful.

Normal fever mode is in the bottom right of the second picture and she is still wearing her outfit. :(

DAMN YOU SEGA!

Anyway, Giant mode seems to be called "Giant Puyo Rush" (translating deka into giant that is). What's the difference between normal giant mode and rush mode?

Looks like Sega finally realized how crap their version of Carbuncle was. He's back to 'normal', yay!

If you're talking about what I posted before it's because I was translating ラッシュ as lash and wondering WTF that meant

At least his eyes won't scare me anymore (referring to the cutscenes in 15th anniversary).

I like Amitie's new Puyo hat more than her old one.

I didn't see what you posted before, actually. :P Pretty sure that should be "rush". Either that or lush but lush wouldn't make any sense. So, is it part of the new transformation mechanics?

I think your brain's aesthetic centre may be broken. O_____o
